Welcome to GeekPinoy's first official post!
To kick things off is one of the main reasons we created this blog, to share our love of DC Unlimited's World of Warcraft Action Figures. The goal is to post our impressions of one figure that is available to us per week so be sure to check back as we will definitely go through the entire line one by one.
One thing to note though... We are NOT by any means toy experts, we're just average everyday geeks trying to share our impressions. This is actually the only line of figures we own and collect so don't go flaming our noob impressions. With that out of the way let's get to it...
First up we have the "Betrayer" himself Illidan Stormrage. With wings stretched out and in battle pose this is one of my favorite figures to date. Sculpted by Jonathan Matthews this figure stands at a total of 13" including the massive wings. Check the break for all the the unboxing and impressions.
The packaging makes it clear that this isn't a regular action figure mostly due to it's size and the overall design of the box. Since it's a deluxe figure the overall size is relatively larger than the other figures in the series as we will see in the upcoming figures we will cover. At the front is clear plastic where you can see the main figure with the wings detached although the warglaves are already in place which is understandable because removing the weapons would make this look less appealing to potential buyers with no knowledge of the character or the overall design.

All in all we have 6 pieces inside not including the pegs used to grab the warglaves. The main figure, two enormous wings, two warglaves and the stand is what you'll get out of the box.
This figure is full of details right down to the accessories. I just wish the warglaves were sharper than they are but being toys I think the guys from DC Unltd. opted for safety. But still great work with the colors and design.
I've always liked wings on anything specially when it's been spread out beautifully like the ones we have here. Colors are great and really gives an impression that the wings are spread out with fading colors.
Here's a rotating view of the main figure without all the accessories. As you can see, great detail has been put on this figure.

With the wings attached this figure stands at a whopping 13" which really looks great. Although this is called an action figure there isn't any alternative pose so don't expect to move the hands anywhere. Even the head can't be moved so I guess this is one of those display type of figures which is actually a plus for us since joints will only make this uglier.

Here's some close up shots so you can see the detail on each part.

Even the markings on his lower part have been clear enough and blends greatly with the design.
Illidan's archaic tattoos have been given great detail which is good since this is what separates him from the other night elves aside from the obvious demon wings. I'm glad that the tattoos aren't just colored in but you can actually see that it's also been sculpted.
As i said the details on this figure go from top to bottom as you can see with his hooves. I just wish the emerald gem on it was much more darker. It seemed like the color was washed up or maybe it's just on this figure.
The warglaves look really good mainly because of the paint job. The dirt color on the brass hand guard makes it much more realistic.
The colors and fine details make this one of the best action figures in the warcraft line to date. And if you're a hardcore Warcraft fan this should already be displayed somewhere in your house.
Be sure to check back next week as we'll cover another figure from Series 1 of these amazing figures.

Hi there, I have the same Illidan action figure, when I bought it at first it was exactly the same like the one in the pic above, but after several months, the wing started falling down, the wing position is getting much lower than before, now the right wing and the warglaive is touching each other, can you tell me whats the problem with that? Is it because of the warm room temperature which causes the wing to somehow melt down?
Im very sure mine is original because I checked on the internet it is 100% the same like any other Illidan figure..
Thanks and your response is greatly appreciated.
@Yusuf
thansk for the comment...
yes, i think room temperature plays a big part in what's happening to your figure right now... are you displaying it in a place where it's exposed to direct sunlight?... the first thing you have to avoid is direct sunlight on your figures... does it look yellowish now?...
Hi Jab thank you for the reply!
I did not display it on direct sunlight, but I used to display it on top of TV and in a room where AC is most of the time turned off, it does not look yellowish though.. Do you think its better to place it in a room where the AC is turned on all the time?
I was wondering if all Warcraft action figure will end up the same as my illidan if displayed in a wrong place?
Thanks!
if it's not yellowish it might be because of the room temperature... do the horns feel softer than they used to?... it happened to my Illidan so I placed it somewhere cooler and it helped... from the looks of it some of the materials used on Illidan are heat sensitive which makes it softer... I personally don't think all of the figures would be affected this way since some of them are built with harder materials... but it's safer to put them somewhere cool...
No the horn isn't softer, the only problem with my illidan was the wing, it was my birthday present so thats why I care a lot about its condition.
Thanks for your response it really relieves me because I thought I was the only one with this problem..
you're welcome... your comments are very much appreciated... it's my first time collecting figures too so it's nice to hear from people who collect the same thing... I'm working on the next figure I'll be posting so please stay tuned...
thanks!
hi guys, im collecting the same figures. how will you know if it is fake? please educate me. right now i have series 1&2, lady vashj, maraad and ilidan demon form.
@anonymous - when it comes to identifying fake or imitation figures there's a couple of things you should consider. First is the dealer itself, if you bought it from Datablitz, Comic Quest, Planet X Comics or an establishment with a reputation then you can be sure it's the good stuff. Another thing is the quality of the inlay or the packaging. I've encountered obvious fakes because the print on the packaging was faded and last but most likely the most important is the actual details on the figure itself. The authentic stuff has great details that the imitations can't copy in mass production. Try to view all my reviews here and compare with the figures you have. Just let us know if you find something weird and we'll see if we can figure it out for you.
P.S. - You might want to put in a name so we can recognize you next time. I hope you enjoy our small blog. Thanks!
anonymous guy here. :D
@Jab: thanks! maybe i should go to datablitz to check their wow figures and see what the original wow looks like. got my deluxe figures for only 1k from a multiply site. i am just wondering if they are original.
@heat01 - The figs from Datablitz are around the same price. But you might want to make sure because it's rare to find complete series 1 and 2 nowadays.
@Jab: got it 2900php per set, the store owner said that the one who supply them is the one who supply wow figures to toy kingdom. soon i'll unbox my figures and make photo reviews and compare it with your photos.
fake or original the figures are awesome. :D
@heat01 - that's a good price. But I have to disagree, your collection should only be authentic. :)
@Jab: sorry my bad. :D what i mean is if the figures i got are fake, for me, the details are still awesome.
i want to see your WOW figures all together in one photo. :D
@heat01 - in that case we can safely say they're authentic. I was acrually planning to do a group pic but right now I don't have time or resources to do it. Hopefully in the future.
@Jab: hihintayin ko yan. :D
Hey Jab. I've bought an Illidan Stormrage off a guy from multiply and the package had faded colors but the figure itself is very much the same as any other. I've opened the box and everything in it is the same as yours. Detail is pretty much the same too.
I don't think figures with faded colored-package are fake. I just think they were made earlier and weren't meant to be sold (like a prototype). So, most probably they were smuggled here from China because that's where they make these things.
Just sharing my thoughts. I am going to get another Illidan figure though because I don't really like the faded package.
@JohnnyQ - thanks for the input. Sorry about the confusion, when I said faded colors on the inlay and packages I meant BUTT-UGLY faded packages and prints. As in the kind of prints you see from street vendor type of toys. =)
@Jab - Oh, well yeah, that's obvious. hahaha. :) Oh have you seen the blade master fake figure? haha, it's claiming that it's from DCunltd. Pitiful...tsk tsk.
@JohnnyQ - yeah, it's really pathetic.
I've been thinking about this a lot, and I just wanted to share my thoughts...how come they DC names the other Illidan the demon form when both of them are actually in demon form. Illidan didn't actually get horns and wings until he consumed the skull of Gul'dan and became half-night elf and half-demon.
I just realized...maybe they should've made this figure look more like Magina in DoTA, so it would be Illidan Stormrage before he turned demon. Just sharing my view :)
@JohnnyQ - I agree. The moment he got the horns and wings he's already in demon form. The black form is what they call metamorphosis if I remember it correctly.
@Jab/Yusuf
I have the same problem as Yusuf on the wings. I just got my Illidan the other day and I already began noticing that the wings are drooping. It's summer right now so I guess that plays a part. Anyway, is there any method you know of that I can use to harden the wings? As you know, they're made of a slightly malleable plastic that will really droop over time due to the weight, so I want to make them stiff so they hold their shape forever.
I've been trying to look for methods but not sure if any of them really work. How does using a clear varnish sound?
@archie - To be honest I haven't really tried stopping the drooping or anything that happens with the figure when it's displayed. I think any chemicals we add might destroy or make things worse.
But if you do try the clear varnish please let us know how it goes. =)
By any chance, are you selling this Illidan figure? If so, I am willing to buy it from you.
@archie - sorry man... as of now I don't have plans of selling any figures...
Hey. I did buy the same figure. Now i get it and all over it is with tape. I don't believe, that this is the orignal one. Do you remember any tapes in the box? Thanks.
@Anonymous - There's tape on the box but not on the figure itself...
why does my illidan belt have color black ?
Maybe it's the Demon Form Figure... =)
http://www.geekpinoy.com/2010/04/demon-form-illidan-stormrage-figure.html
no it is'nt cause the skin of my illidan is violet
ganito kasi un sir ung belt nung illidan ko green parin kaso may parang black na humalo..
@anonymous - hhhmmm... If that's the case di na ko sure kung bakit... Baka manufacturing defect?...
last na tanong na .. dun ba sa likod ng belt ng illidan nyu may nakalagay na dcunlimited na nakasulat ?
Yup...Meron...
Hi,
i got the same illidan figures for a few years now...but unfortunately the stand base broke and the figure cant really stand anymore. Any ideas on how to make it stand or support it?
Thank you.
Hmmm... I think you can buy support or stands at hobby shops... you just have to pick one that looks good on Illidan...
