Koreans Watch Avatar in 4D! Makes 3D Old and Lame

Monday, February 15, 2010

Yes you read it right Koreans are making the rest of the world's Avatar fans lame by being able to watch the entire movie in 4D. Apparently 3D movies aren't enough for the hardcore movie geeks of Korea as the leading multiplex chain CJ-CGV(no idea what it stands for) is offering Avatar in 4D. What's 4D you ask? Check the break and find out!

A 4D movie is basically like Enchanted Kingdom's Rialto ride which features moving seats and some air and water sprays to make use of your other senses.
The 4D screening uses more than 30 effects during the 3D film's 162 minute run, including moving seats, smells of explosives, sprinkling water, laser lights and wind. Despite the much higher $15.80 ticket price (an average ticket costs $6.90), screenings are regularly sold out.
Amazingly this isn't the first full length film CJ-CGV put out. They started out 4D last year with "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and is continually adding more movies to the 4D experience including "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief".

So is $15.80 or around Php800 worth it to watch Avatar in 4D? In my opinion it is since iMax theaters here offer somewhere around that amount. Let us know in the comments.
