Facebook's Project Titan Wants to Take On Gmail

Saturday, February 06, 2010

According to TechCrunch, Social Media giant Facebook might be getting ready to release their own full featured webmail service to the world. Code named "Project Titan" will Facebook be able to compete with Google's Gmail? Well for one, Facebook has over 400 million subscribers to date with their own personal email address they used to create their Facebook accounts. But if Facebook's going to offer features similar to what Gmail has they might be able to get a lot of people to sign up and get their own @Facebook.com emails.

I have a lot of friends who only go online to check on their Facebook accounts. Imagine what it would be like for them if they only had one central source of information which I'm sure Facebook is to millions of users around the world. I'm not even sure if people still use their emails to stay connected. A lot of them just go ahead and send messages to friends and loved ones through Facebook's many ways of communicating. Now if Facebook's email service would go live a lot of people would be able to communicate outside of Facebook's network, you'd be able to send messages to your friends on Gmail or even YahooMail. That again is another way for Facebook to get more users by simply putting out an invite link on the email itself. Facebook is getting bigger and bigger by the minute and this wouldn't be possible without their innovations in getting people to communicate.
