Naga Queen Lady Vashj World of Warcraft Action Figure Review

Friday, March 19, 2010

Lady Vashj is the first female Deluxe Figure to come out of DC Unltd's line of World of Warcraft Figures. Here's a clip about her origins from WoW Wiki:
Lady Vashj (pronunciation is somewhere between Vash and Vosh) was born in the city of Zin-Azshari, capital of the night elves, sometime before the War of the Ancients. Once chief among Queen Azshara's handmaidens, Vashj became one of the serpentine naga when Azshara and her followers were sent to the bottom of the sea during the Great Sundering.
I was very excited to pick up this figure as she is a very prominent figure in Warcraft lore especially in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.

Nothing too special about the packaging, mostly the same with the other Deluxe Figures we've seen.

All in all you get 6 pieces out of the box. The main figure, her bow, a sword, an arrow, the end part of her tail and the stand.

When I got to inspect her out of the box I kind of got disappointed with the way she was colored. The majority of the accessories were supposed to be gold not smudged with green. I'd understand the green color because she's from the sea and all but not too much that it overpowers the supposed gold color of the weapons. Whoever put in the gold colors must've been someone pretty lazy.

Here she is without all the accessories. If it wasn't for her tail nobody would really miss the accessories. Luckily her pose is one thing we can be grateful for, she isn't looking down or angled in a way that we'd have a hard time seeing her face.

Let's see the difference with the accessories on. Definitely a great looking figure from afar, but wait till we get up close.

If you get a closer look at her forehead you can actually see a line in the sculpt. I think it's the cast mark which disappointingly shouldn't be there since this is a deluxe figure, and with deluxe being the word here details should be everything. I really hate that her armor looks more green than gold.

It's confirmed, anything that's supposed to be gold is disappointing. Just look at her shoulder armor, it's green up to the back.

One of the right hands is another disappointment, for some reason they separated the mold of the thumb and the entire hand. So now you can see a split between the thumb and the entire hand. I'd understand if there was some sort of articulation to the thumb which would really be dumb by the way but there isn't so why did the make it this way? That serpent on her left hand, it's supposed to be gold but i's still too green argh!.

One thing I feel they got right with the colors is the serpent hairs. Somebody would really be dumb if they got black all wrong. If you look closer you'll see it's not all snakes, she's also got an eel, which is a nice touch.

I would've said the torso is the best thing on this figure until I saw that big crack where her arms are attached it's like somebody just sculpted her parts separately and put them together.

Her lower part looks okay, you have scales with great details but again the colors disappoint me in so many ways. Some of the scales look like they rubbed on to something and lost it's colors. The colors could've put in more depth and effects to the scales but it all looks washed.

That small plate of armor for her tail is supposed to be solid gold not green. Luckily the fins look great transparent and pink the way it should be. I'm glad somebody got something right.

Lady Vashj should've been a great figure but I feel that she had way too many things wrong with her. The colors aren't too great and there are parts that shouldn't have had any separation or should've been sculpted all together. If you want to complete your collection than go ahead and buy her she would definitely look good beside Illidan. But if you're looking for something with great details and properly colored armor then I'd recommend you look for another deluxe figure.

Bah, that is to bad about the forehead on your Lady Vashj. I agree with your entire review except the forehead on mine is perfect. There is no line there. I have seen another Vashj at a local comic store and that one is fine also.

The most disappointing collector figure created by DC for the WoW series yet...
