Orc Rogue Garona Warcraft Action Figure Review

After all the delays and mishaps with our image host we're now back in business and ready to roll with our latest World of Warcraft Action Figure Review! The next figure we have in line is probably one of the rarest races or species in World of Warcraft mainly because she's a hybrid. No she doesn't run on batteries and gas at the same time. The Orc Rogue Garona Halforcen is actually a cross between an Orc and a Draenei but we're not here to delve into her role in Warcraft lore, we're here to review DC Unltd's take on what she's supposed to look like in the real world. So head on to the break and see if this figure is worth your hard earned cash.

Like always, here's some background info to get you started with who Garona Halforcen is.

Garona Halforcen is a half-orc half-draenei, though most including herself believed she was half-human until the truth was revealed to her. She is an assassin[4] and a spymaster. She was an emissary of the Horde during the first invasion of Azeroth, and was the reluctant murderer of King Llane Wrynn. Later on, she joined her son and the other members of the New Council of Tirisfal in their battle against the Twilight's Hammer clan.

Let's focus on the figure now. Being half Draenei and Half Orc I was actually disappointed that Garona's kind of small. I mean Orcs and Draeneis are big characters in World of Warcraft even the female Draeneis like the Mage Tamuura is a sizable figure when compared to the other races. I guess that's why she was mistaken for a half human instead of a Draenei.

All in all you get four pieces out of the packaging. The main figure, two weapons and the peg stand. I'm really glad that DC Unltd decided to design the peg stands rather than the blank blank stands of the older series figures. The weapons seem to have some blood spatters on them which is kind of weird for me since the actual edges don't have any blood on 'em. So I'm wondering where the blood actually came from. Plus the handles aren't straight which I'm not sure is intentional.

Here's a quick 360 degree turn of the figure. As early as now I'm going to tell you guys that here pose is okay with me but it's so darn hard to photograph any details on the torso.

I like her subtle blue tattoos. They don't overpower the overall design of the figure. If you look closely you'd notice some dreadlock like stuff hanging just below her ears. Those are actually tentacles that she got from her Draenei side. At first I thought it was some kind of dreadlocks but they seemed to smooth to be considered as hair. I'm really not a fan of the fangs but I do like how it's not pure white, makes more sense.

The arms and shoulders look okay with all the tattoos complementing the overall color scheme of the figure. I like that the accessories on the left and right arms are different but I'm really disappointed with how the back is colored. The brown color of the strings look messy. I guess somebody was in a hurry to finish coloring or the details are too small to work on. Either way it looks like it can still be improved from where I'm looking at it.

The variation of the accessories on the left and right side seem to end with the arms as everything on the left and right leg seem to be similar. I really like the design of the boots and the small details the artist put in but I'm not really impressed with how everything's colored. The somewhat pink gems accenting the lower part of the figure feel out place and could've been replaced by something more consistent with the figure. Blue gems perhaps?

Overall the Orc Rogue Garona Action Figure has all the potential to be a great figure. With a superstar character in Warcraft Lore and a very rare hybrid of a race she could've easily topped my list. Unfortunately the pose and lazy colors on the figure really didn't help plus the figure really feels small for it's combined race. I guess I can recommend this figure to hardcore Orc enthusiasts and collectors but if you're just trying to spend your money on a figure your much better off looking for something that gives you more impact and star power. Like the Sylvanas Windrunner action figure among others.

@wartaker - I never played WoW too... Though I was addicted to Warcraft 3 back in college. Now I just collect the figures because I don't have anytime to play.

Those teeth are humongous! I'm really disappointed with this figure. When I looked at the pics in the SDCC it was very detailed right down to the canine teeth. The final product is just disappointing. The texture of the skin is different, and what's worse is the teeth. Did I mention I hate her teeth!? DC unltd just keeps on getting our hopes up.

I think if she shut her mouth, her fangs might hit her nose lol.

Yes, we all agree that the exagerated fangs are ugly. They could've made it prominent but still look great.

Her saber tooth fangs are a deal breaker, but the peg stand is OK!

@Runetotem - the peg stands of the new sets are awesome. I'm glad they decided to design it instead of just the blanks the old figs had.

hi
does anybody know if serie 8 now available is?

jab said...

@anonymous - there's no word on an official release date for series 8 yet. Although Premium Series 3 is set for June 1st. Hopefully there's no delay.

Premium Series 3 is already out bro!! Garrosh is awesome!!!

Jab said...

@JusticeBlade - Yeah, I'm planning to pick up my set later this week. I've been swamped with work lately. Hopefully I can post the Lich King review this week. Thanks!

Is Premium Series 3 out on Datablitz?
If not, which local stores are they available?

Jab said...

@tenjou - Datablitz doesn't have 'em yet... you can check Comic Quest at Megamall or PlanetX at Glorietta...

tenjou said...

@jab
Can I ask how much are they on those stores?

Jab said...

@tenjou - last time I checked PlanetX is selling the set (both figs) for Php 3,600.

JohnnyQ said...

@tenjou: I suggest you just wait for Datablitz. Their stocks will come soon for sure. I think they're gonna be selling each for 1.4k so you'll only be spending 2.8k on the set. You'll save 800 pesos.

tenjou said...

@JohnnyQ
Yeah I'll wait for it from Datablitz.
Comic Quest has them for 1850 each.
2Rats has them for 2k each.

The thing about Datablitz though is while browsing around their shop I asked for the price of Tuskarr from Premium Series 1 and it is sold P1800 while Thrall from Premium Series 2 is P1350.
Why the difference in price?

Hope Series 3 is priced the same as series 2.

Jab said...

@tenjou - I'm pretty sure they quoted you the wrong price on the Tuskarr...

JohnnyQ said...

@Jab and tenjou - I think I remember that being the case as well when I saw the premium series 1. I remember them being pricier than series 2.

Series 3 comes with the same packaging as the Series 2 so they would probably be up for the same price.

Anyone got Premium Series 3 on Datablitz yet?
It's listed on their website
http://datablitz.com.ph/templates/standard/user_home/landing/wow_page/premium2.html

Went to one of their branches but I havent seen them though.

Jab said...

@tenjou - Saw the figs earlier today. They're priced at Php 1,495 each...

tenjou said...

@jab
From what Datablitz branch did you see it?

Jab said...

@tenjou - saw them at the Park Square Branch...
