Not so long ago, Geek Pinoy was conceptualized over a meal right after some movie we don’t even remember, in celebration of some occasion. Little did we know that Geek Pinoy would be born that night. Then, being seven months in existence in the blogosphere, it has been pretty exciting. With all the events and conventions we got to join, articles we wrote and people we met. Now, we just had our very first TV appearance! Woohoo!
Thanks to the iBlog summit last April, we got to meet Vince and Hannah of Tek Tok TV. After some exchange of emails and a little rescheduling, we got to be featured on their show.
It was a pretty cool experience, actually. My “guide,” Jab, was giving me last minute reminders on what to say, while I was checking on myself and getting to a zen place so as to avoid some untimely fainting spells. Jab is the keep-it-to-me kind of guy so he just made me do the whole thing.

Here's your chance to score a free movie pass to Twilight Saga: Eclipse. All you need is a little patience to dial a phone number and an Ayala Malls Acard. Oh, and you need to be close to an Ayala Mall but then again who isn't right? If you live in the Philippines that is. I know a lot of girls and probably guys would want to see this movie just to see Edward and Jacob bite the living day lights out of that evil vampire army we always see in the trailers. Not to mention poor helpless Bella who's still not a vampire by the way. Check the break for all the little details and the poster that's too small too read.

The latest firmware update for the iPhone 3G, 3GS and recently purchased iPod Touches is now upon us! I feel I have to remind all the jailbreakers out there not to update there devices or else suffer the consequences. Namely not being able to access all the "unofficial" apps and customization you added on to your device. I'm sure most of you are already aware that DevTeam already released a working jailbreak for iOS4 but I think it's safer to wait it out and see what the experts have in mind seeing as there might be a couple of changes being that this is the official stable update and all. For the non-jailbreakers out there, Happy Updating!

They have a lot of world class custom Celsius Figures on display at their booth including stuff to make your own custom Celsius figures. If you think your customizing skills are the best in the land you can even enter a contest they're promoting at the booth. Who knows you might even land a spot at an international convention. "510 Degrees Celsius Custom San Francisco" ring a bell? We got a couple of contest details and a link to the exclusive distributor of Blank Celsius figures here in the Philippines. So take the jump and read more.

The 1st Pampanga Toy Convention will be making waves over at SM City Pampanga on April 30th to May 2nd 2010. This would be the first toy convention outside of Manila which is a very good indication that toy collecting is getting bigger in the Philippines. The event is brought to you by the good folks over at the Pampanga Toy Collectors Club. The event is totally free so head on over there if you're looking for great deals on collectible items and action figures. Check on their Facebook Fanpage for more information.

Cosplay Mania 2010 is on it's way and they're trying to find qualified and willing cosplayers to help out. Cosplay Mania is usually set in the month of October and from what I read it's always done at the Megatrade Halls of SM Megamall. Volunteering for this event would be a great way to know the ins and outs of organizing a cosplay event. You might also get the chance to meet some of the big wigs of the Philippine Cosplay community so hit the break and get volunteering.

The Gleeks have witnessed the very memorable premier of the much awaited second part of the first season of Glee. This momentous event was made possible by the gorgeous and lovely people of Jack TV. GeekPinoy wishes to thank you for the invitation. It was indeed a lovely day!
This event was filled with different surprises. At the registration, you are given two drink stubs and one buffet band then you are lead to your assigned room. As we wait for the live telecast, via satellite of the “Hell-O” episode, we mingled with the people inside the room, had our pictures taken at the photo booth outside and of course, we tried the very tempting buffet.

Here's another cosplay event we really want to cover, and hopefully we can get our real world bosses to give us some time off for this. Plus I have to check out where the Philippine Trade Training Center is. I guess I'll just have to follow the hordes of cosplayers roaming around Roxas Boulevard to find the place. A lot of stuff to look forward to including lots of games and of course individual and group cosplay contests. May 8th is still a couple of weeks and I hope we can prepare some stuff to give out at the event. Check the break for the full poster.

I'm sure most of us have trash lying around the house and if you're anything like me, most of it would actually be dead gadgets or appliances just waiting for the next garbage truck to pass by. I've had about 5 monitors that served me well and good, until they broke down and seemed irreparable. All of 'em sent to the garbage truck without hesitation. But recently I had two monitors break down which prompted me to buy AOC's LED Monitor, but instead of throwing the old monitors out I decided to keep them around until I find a better way of disposing them. And I'm glad I did because Megamall has what they call a recycling market that exchanges trash for cash. Check the break for a list of scraps they accept and recycle. It's good to earn while going green!

The 3rd Annual Philippine Cosplay Convention was a roaring success and Geek Pinoy was there to cover all the action our little shutters can take. We want to thank everyone who took the time to dress up and pose for Geek Pinoy. As you all know our blog is currently expanding and I'm glad to say we have a new contributing photographer for Geek Pinoy. Jan Yolec Homecillo was nice enough to share his shots for this post which I can say are very good ones. He's a budding photographer so let's give him all the support he needs as fellow geeks. So if you cosplayers are ready to grab and copy your photos or just someone interested in seeing how the Philippine Cosplay Culture is doing check the image heavy post after the break.

Yes you read it right, I will worship any man or woman that sponsors this poor geek's wish to go to BlizzCon 2010. Another year and another heart ache for geek's on our side of the planet that can't afford to go to the USA just to attend one of the greatest geek events on the planet. Details about BlizzCon 2010 have been announced and they're going back to the Anaheim Convention Center which is around a bazillion miles from where I live and it would probably take me a hundred years just to afford to go there and that's not even counting the challenges of buying the actual BlizzCon tickets which usually takes down the Blizzard Online Store because of the massive traffic it gets from the hordes of geeks trying to get the prized strip of cardboard. No details about ticket prices are available as of now but we have a couple of clips if you want to know more.

Sony Philippines Inc. is setting up it's first ever Playstation Event this coming march 27th and 28th at the Glorietta Activity Center. I'm really not sure what they mean by "Event" but the important thing to know right now is that they're hosting a PS Game Character Cosplay Competition which gives you the chance to win a brand spanking new PS3. Details are a little bit sketchy at the moment about the cosplay contest but you can start registering on their site for more details. There's even discounts for the first 100 PS3 buyers so check the break and see what you can get.
